Yesterday at United Center in Chicago Beyonce helped announce Feeding America’s Show Your Helping Hand Campaign.

In conjunction with her ‘I Am’ North American tour, Beyonce hopes to help Feeding America deliver millions of meals to local food banks.

Beyoncé has partnered with General Mills’ Hamburger Helper with the goal of helping Feeding America deliver more than 3.5 million meals to local food banks through the Show Your Helping Hand campaign. The press conference on Friday focused on childhood hunger and featured a performance from the Chicago Children’s Choir.

“I’ve seen hungry children all around the world from Africa to Asia to India and it’s such a sad thing because food is something we all take for granted every day. When I found out that 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger I was very surprised to know that in this economic downturn we suffer right here in America. Especially since it’s the summer time and children don’t have access to school lunches.
I would like to see the hands of everyone that brought non perishable food items today! I want to say thank you for helping us reach our goal. We’ve already received over 9 thousand pounds of food. I can’t believe that. And our goal is to deliver 3.5 million meals to local food banks. We already have 3.1 million. But we can’t do this by ourselves. We are not done. We want to exceed.
Since I was 9 years old, my family would take my sister and I to the local shelters to feed the hungry. And giving back is something I was taught from an early age. I truly believe that God blesses us to bless other people” And I never thought at age nine that I would one day be able to team up with General Mills and Hamburger Helpers to fight hunger on such a large scale. Thank you guys for this opportunity – said Beyonce.

She also had a message to the young people.

“If you want to be confident and desirable you have to have self esteem. If you want to have the self esteem you have to feel good about who you are. And there’s nothing in this world that makes you feel better about yourself than giving and giving for the right reasons.
I usually am very shy about the charitable things that I am a part of with but I realize that young people need to know so they can see that it’s cool to know new dances and the new hat designs but that’s even more important to do something positive with that energy”.

One Response to “Beyonce teams up with Feeding America’s Show Your Helping Hands Campaign in Chicago.”

  1. I think this is such a wonderful program; no child should go hungery, and Beyonce message about self-esteem and giving back are so important for our young people to hear.

I am also the proud parent of one of the choir members (young man to the right of Beyonce in the bottom three photos). I would love to obtain copies of these photos and/or other photos from this very special event.

Who should I contact? Any help would be appeciated.
